Loch Achilty Lochside Walk
A leisurely lochside walk starting from the free car park at the head of the loch, following the northern shore through birch and oakwoods past the pebble beach. Can be extended north to Rogie Falls.
A picturesque 100-acre freshwater Highland loch located near Contin and Strathpeffer, featuring a beautiful pebble beach with a shallow, easy wade-in entry. Surrounded by birch and oakwoods, it is a popular location for wild swimming, including Ice Mile challenges, as well as canoeing, paddleboarding, and fishing. The water is notably clear and the shore provides a tranquil setting with forest scenery and picnic areas. The loch is also home to a historic crannog — an ancient artificial island dating to around 1060 AD — which confident swimmers often strike out to from the beach.
